Description
These bear hunts are self-guided, offering an unforgettable adventure in the remote beauty of Alaska. Starting in May and early June, this 6-day, 5-night hunt departs from Homer, Alaska, with guests encouraged to arrive on Saturday, as the vessel departs early Sunday morning for the outer coast of the Kenai Peninsula. This rarely explored area, bordering the Kenai Fjords National Park, offers breathtaking scenery. Once leaving Homer, you’ll begin scanning stretches of shoreline for bears, as spring bears tend to concentrate below the snow line and come down to the beach to feed on early vegetation and low tide debris. The extended daylight hours—18 to 20 hours—allow for plenty of time to fish and hunt bears throughout the day. Bear hunting is done by cruising the beach in skiffs, glassing the side hills, and waiting for the perfect moment to stalk once a bear is sighted. The tidal flats are also heavily glassed from shore, and most bears are harvested at or near the beach, minimizing the need for strenuous packing or climbing. The bears average just over 6 squared and boast incredible hides, making this hunt a truly remarkable experience. This trip isn’t just about bear hunting—it’s a chance to experience stunning Alaskan scenery and world-class fishing, making it an exceptional value. While weather can occasionally affect plans, this adventure is worth every penny for the sights, wildlife, and activities it offers. We also offer this trip in August, which is perfect for bow hunters. And don’t worry—you don’t have to be a bear hunter to enjoy this trip. Many participants are there for fishing, wildlife photography, or simply to enjoy the Alaskan wilderness. Groups of 4-6 hunters or non-hunters are required, and the 86-foot vessel, featuring five comfortable staterooms, can accommodate up to 8 guests.

They recommend retaining fish the last two days of the trip so that they can send you home with the freshest possible fish. Fish processing and shipping is available in Homer and vacuum packing is the preferred method for most. They return to Homer Friday afternoon and guests should plan on staying the night in Homer to allow for bear hide sealing and fish freezing, etc. Fish boxes can be taken as luggage on your return to reality. Many of their clients choose to add a day of salt water salmon fishing to their trip just to cover all of the bases as the salmon fishing is traditionally great at this time.
